Endoscopic Laminectomy

Endoscopic laminectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat spinal stenosis, a condition that occurs when the spinal canal narrows and puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. The procedure involves removing a portion of the lamina, the bony structure that covers the spinal canal, using a specialized endoscope.

The benefits of endoscopic laminectomy over traditional open laminectomy are numerous. One of the most significant benefits is that endoscopic laminectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that requires only small incisions. This results in less tissue disruption and scarring, and a shorter recovery time. Patients who undergo endoscopic laminectomy typically experience less postoperative pain and discomfort compared to those who undergo traditional open laminectomy. Another benefit of endoscopic laminectomy is that it can be performed on an outpatient basis, which means that patients can go home the same day as the procedure. Traditional open laminectomy typically requires a hospital stay of several days. In addition, the endoscope allows for a clearer view of the surgical site, which allows for greater precision and accuracy during the procedure.

Endoscopic laminectomy is generally recommended for patients with spinal stenosis who have not responded to conservative treatments, such as physical therapy or medication. Candidates for the procedure include those with chronic pain, numbness, and weakness in their arms or legs, as well as those with difficulty walking or standing for prolonged periods of time.
